Dr. Marion C. Chown

Marion Coster CHOWN, MD; age 87; died quietly at Azalealand Nursing Home October 11, 2008. Born November 18, 1920 at Grand Rapids, Michigan, Dr. Chown practiced family medicine in the Wyandotte/Grosse Ile area of Michigan for over 45 years. With a degree from the University of Michigan, she served with distinction as a U.S. Naval Officer during WWII, and subsequently was one of the first women to attend Women's Medical College of Pennsylvania now Drexel University at Philadelphia. She operated her own private practice, and served on the staff of Wyandotte General Hospital. After retiring from her own practice she served as chief Emergency Room physician at Wyandotte General until declining health forced her into full retirement. She moved to Savannah in 2001 to be closer to family. Dr. Chown is survived by her nephew, CDR Donn Chown II, USN Ret of Ellijay, GA; and her nieces, Toni Chown-Olds of Savannah, GA, and Lynn Stratton of Beaufort, SC. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Azalealand Nursing Home and Hospice Savannah for the loving care they gave to Dr. Chown.
